Mentorship Programs | Policies
Availability and Enrollment
Applications for HCP mentorship programs are open year round.
HCP is not obligated to offer mentorships with all mentors across the year.
Mentors’ availability might change. Mentors may not accept new mentorships at times.
Mentorship candidates must submit an application and include their background, work examples, and goals for the mentorships. Mentorship applications will be reviewed by HCP staff and potential mentors.
Mentorship programs are pending approval of the selected mentors.
Enrollment in a mentorship program is completed once the program’s fee has been paid in full after confirming the selected mentor’s availability.
Mentorship programs must be completed within a 3-month period (5-hour program) or 6-month period (10-hours program). Extension requests must be received in writing and approved by the mentor.
Payments and Refunds
The full program fee (minus discounts) is due at the time of enrollment.
HCP memberships discounts (10%) and Advanced Photography Practices certificate program discounts (15%) are applicable toward mentorship programs.
Mentorship programs’ fees are non-refundable.
Any requests for refunds due to the mentee’s or mentor’s inability to complete a mentorship program will be considered on a case-to-case basis.
Change of Mentor
Each Mentorship program is limited to working with a single mentor.
To work with multiple mentors, mentees must enroll in multiple mentorship programs.
Requests to change mentors due to significant concerns that might interfere with a successful mentorship must be received in writing at education@hcponline.org. If needed, HCP will do its best to match mentees with another mentor that fits the student’s goals and expectations.
In the rare event that a mentor is unable to complete a mentorship program, HCP will do its best to match mentees with another mentor for the remainder of the program.
Mentorship Sessions
Mentees are expected to prepare for mentorship sessions, conduct themselves professionally, and consult with their mentors only during mentorship sessions.
Mentees are asked to limit communication with mentors outside of scheduled sessions in respect of the mentor’s time and availability.
Mentees understand that mentors may cancel a session due to an emergency including last-minute professional needs. Mentors will reschedule canceled sessions in a timely manner.
Mentees may cancel or reschedule a session with at least 48 hours’ notice.
Requests made with less than 48 hours’ notice due to emergencies must be shared with education@hcponline.org and will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
Mentees’ failure to attend a scheduled session (“no show”) will count toward the total hours included in their mentorship program.
In the event that a mentorship session is disrupted due to technical difficulties, the session will be rescheduled to allow an effective working environment.
Mentorship sessions will not be recorded unless agreed upon between the mentor and the mentee. HCP has no responsibility for the availability of any recordings of mentorship sessions.
