After teaching at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York since 2022 and teaching a class at the Leica Akademie in New York in 2025, acclaimed photographer Landon Nordeman offers a special masterclass at HCP, the first of its kind in Texas.

Step into the vibrant world of flash photography with Landon Nordeman, a celebrated editorial and commercial photographer recognized for his striking imagery and masterful lighting. Nordeman’s distinctive approach transforms everyday moments into surreal, hyper-realistic images that feel candid yet are carefully composed. In this masterclass, he will demonstrate how flash can be used to heighten atmosphere and meaning in events, parties, and social gatherings, elevating documentation into a form of visual storytelling that is both bold and engaging. Participants will explore how the deliberate use of artificial light can heighten color, freeze movement, and create a unique tension between the real and the theatrical.

Combining lecture, image analysis, and practical exercises, Nordeman will share insights drawn from his extensive career across high-profile editorial and commercial contexts. Participants will gain an understanding of the technical and aesthetic considerations of flash (exposure, direction, and timing) while exploring how creative lighting can reveal, amplify, and reframe reality. This masterclass positions flash not simply as a functional necessity, but as a powerful means of shaping images that resonate with depth and intensity.

In the words of his past students:

“I had the opportunity to work closely with Landon as his teaching assistant at the International Center of Photography, and I witnessed the ferocious glee he brings to teaching flash photography. Landon has a rare ability to make light feel like a living, creative force rather than just a technical necessity. His enthusiasm is contagious, his explanations are clear and actionable, and he empowers students at every level to experiment, take risks, and find their own voice through lighting. Whether in a demo or during critique, Landon fosters a space where curiosity thrives and confidence grows. Learning from him is not just about understanding flash — it’s about unlocking what you can do with it.”

Uliana Storoshchuk

“After being in photography for many years, I didn’t expect anyone to completely change how I see light - but you did. You made me fall in love with photography again and see it in a new light - literally.”
