Learning Curve is an annual exhibition celebrating HCP students’ work from the past year. Students who attended courses or workshops at HCP between Winter 2024 and Spring 2025 are eligible to apply. From digital photography to alternative processes, Learning Curve highlights HCP Education's various programs.
The exhibition is juried by a leading curator, editor, or artist who is in dialogue with the medium of contemporary art and/ or photography. Works selected by the juror will be exhibited at HCP and highlighted on our digital platforms.

Important Dates:
May 6, 2025 – Entries for Learning Curve 17 open for submission
June 1, 2025 – Entries close - submission deadline (11:59 PM)
June 9, 2025 – Acceptance notifications sent via email
July 3, 2025 – Accepted works due at HCP
July 17, 2025 – Opening reception, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Learning Curve 17 will be juried by Raquel Natalicchio
Raquel Natalicchio is a bilingual photographer from Los Angeles, California currently based in Houston, Texas as a staff visual journalist for The Houston Chronicle. Natalicchio documents social issues, community-driven stories, political mobilization, and migration across the US/Mexico border. Her work focuses on the universality of humanity, including themes of love, struggle, resilience, and community. Her current long-term project, “Borderlands”, explores the rich diversity of experiences in border communities along the US/Mexico border.
Natalicchio has exhibited in several solo and group exhibitions such as the Los Angeles Center of Photography, Art House NYC, New York, and Think Tank Gallery, Los Angeles among others. Her images have been published extensively in the Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle, El Pais, Daily Mail, CNN, NBC, CBS, and ABC to name a few.
Combining her passions for photography and education, Natalicchio has developed special curricula with themes such as ‘self-love’ for teen girls after-school programs. She is equally passionate about community building and has produced talks, panel discussions, and exhibitions for photography communities in Los Angeles, Houston, and London.

Any student who has attended an HCP course or workshop between January 2024 and the present. Students of all levels of photographic knowledge or experience may apply.

No, any eligible student can apply, regardless of their place of residence.

HCP staff, Board, Advisory Council, Committee members, and their significant others are not eligible. Interns are eligible to apply.

No, there is no entry fee, but you must have attended a class at HCP from January 2024 onward.

Please select and carefully edit no more than 5 images representing your current photographic work. Each of your images should be prepared for submission according to the following specifications:
File Type: JPEG (.jpg)
Resolution: 2000 pixels (px) on the LONGEST side
Color Profile: Adobe RGB (1998)
In addition, you will need to provide the following:
1) Your artist bio
2) An artist statement (if applicable)
3) Specific information for each piece:
• Title (for identification purposes)
• Year
• Size (height X width)
• Medium of finished work (archival inkjet print, Polaroid, chromogenic print, photo collage, etc.)

We use the application platform Submittable for all of our calls for entry. Once the call opens, clicking the submission link above will take you directly to the online portal to submit your application.
Once on Submittable, click “Submit” to begin the submission process. Enter your name and personal information, add your bio, and provide your artist statement (if relevant). Once completing this section. you will be able to upload your images and provide the required info for each image you wish to submit.

Yes. A new juror is selected for each Learning Curve exhibition to ensure that there is a fresh set of eyes on our work.

Applicants will be notified of the jurying results via email by June 9, 2025. Shortly after, Exhibitors will be contacted to schedule shipping arrangements.
Note: HCP retains the right to reject any selected work that differs from the work submitted. -
HCP members receive discounts on courses, workshops, and masterclasses, have access to the Digital Lab and Lighting Studio, participate in Critique Groups, Attend the Photobook Club meetings and more. HCP Members have the opportunity to enter other calls for entry, including HCP’s Center Annual and Fellowship competitions.

- ARTWORK PRESENTATION: Upon your acceptance, the work to be exhibited must be delivered ready-to-hang in either a simple white, black, or natural wood frame; matting is optional, and frames that do not meet these criteria should be pre-approved by the Exhibitions and Programs Coordinator in advance. In the case that a pedestal or specific hardware is needed for presentation, you must inform the Exhibitions and Programs Coordinator of what will be necessary for the installation of your work. Artists exhibiting slide or video projection, installation, or sculptural works beyond a two-dimensional format are expected to provide the hardware and equipment necessary to exhibit the work as it is intended to be shown. HCP does not provide slide or video projectors. HCP does have a few small-to-medium-sized TV monitors and media players for displaying video work.
- DELIVERY OF ARTWORK: HCP will pay for round-trip ground shipping of Exhibitors' artwork. HCP will not cover the cost of producing a crate or any other packaging materials. Do NOT ship work with packaging peanuts.- INSURANCE: Works will be insured while on the premises of HCP. However, HCP cannot be responsible for damage or loss during transit.
- IMAGE RIGHTS: Exhibitor retain the original copyright to their artwork. HCP retains the right to display and reproduce work accepted for this exhibition for publicity and promotional purposes.
