Fernando Castro R. (born in Lima, Peru) is a philosopher, art-critic, curator, artist and poet. He did pre-med studies at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (Lima) and graduate studies in analytic philosophy at Rice University (Houston) as a Fulbright scholar. He currently lives in Houston and works as curator at Sicardi Ayers Bacino.

Castro began his career as a critic writing for El Comercio, Lima in 1988. He has contributed to Lima Times (Lima), Photometro (San Francisco), ArtNexus (Miami), Spot (Houston), Literal (Houston), Luna Córnea (México), and Aperture (New York) to name a few. Castro has undertaken numerous curatorial projects including "Modernity in the Southern Andes: Peruvian Photography 1900-1930” (1992-2000); "The Art of Risk / The Risk of Art" (1999); and “Prime Years” (Houston Center for Photography, 2010).

Castro’s series “Cinco Rollos de Plus-X” was exhibited at the now legendary Secuencia FotoGalería (Lima) in 1978 and was published by Studia Hispanica as a book of poetry and photography in 1983. His personal work took a political turn in 1998 under the title "Reasons of State" and was included in the book “The Art to Come” in 2003. Castro’s works are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The Dancing Bear Collection, Lehigh University, Museo de Arte de Lima, and the Harry Ransom Collection, among others.
