














Are You Ready? Finding Your Gallery (Sep 14-Oct 12)
Dates: September 14 - October 12, 2025
Meetings: Sundays, 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM CST (5 sessions)

Have you been creating fine art photography for years? Do you feel you might be ready to be represented by a gallery or wonder how to get to that point? In this unique course, local art dealer and gallery owner Catherine Couturier will unveil the dynamics of art galleries and their relationship with artists, review your imagery, teach you how to polish and present your work professionally following industry standards, and outline the required steps you’ll need to take in order to find the right representation. The class will entail evaluating and reworking your portfolio, researching galleries and identifying potential galleries for your work, and discussing decisions you need to make before submitting/presenting your portfolio for their consideration.
Objectives:
Understand the art world from the perspective of an experienced, leading gallery owner
Have a body of work professionally evaluated
Rework said body of work based on feedback preparing it for submission
Consult and make important decisions on sizing, editions, and pricing
Identify the best galleries for your artwork
Understand what to expect from a gallery relationship - the dos and don’ts
Submit your portfolio to the right galleries, if you're ready
Set realistic expectations and goals for the next stage of your artistic career
Prerequisites:
Registration for this course is pending approval of HCP’s Education department following a portfolio review. Please email a selection of 10-20 works you intend to discuss in the course to education@hcponline.org (low res JPGs or a PDF file) and register for the course only after receiving approval to do so.
Course Prep:
Please bring your strongest body of work printed in the format of your choice. If you have yet to complete a personal project/series, please bring a selection of your strongest work. Each student should have 10-20 prints ready for review.
