














Advanced Photo Critique and Professional Practices (Oct 27-Dec 15)
Dates: October 27 - December 15, 2025
Meetings: Mondays, 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM CST (8 sessions)
Location: Online Zoom Classroom
Cost: $590 Tuition + $20 Materials (HCP members can receive a 10% discount)

Skill Level: Intermediate-Advanced
Creating a strong body of work takes a lot of effort and requires consulting with others, receiving feedback, and preparing professionally to sharing it with professionals. This course is designed to assist photographers realize the full potential of their projects in progress. Through a process mixing advanced photo critiques with lectures, students will synthesize the core elements of their projects, improve their edit and sequence, draft required texts, discuss important aspects for publishing or exhibiting their work, and prepare for releasing their projects. Topics include effective editing & sequencing, artist statements, printing and framing considerations, portfolio reviews, working with editors and/or curators, and much more. A leading industry professional will join the students’ final presentations, providing “real-life” feedback and opportunities.
Objectives:
Continue to develop your personal project in a supportive environment
Receive valuable feedback from your instructor and peers
Identify and work on the elements required to complete your project
Develop your editing and sequencing skills
Draft and improve the artist statement of your project
Create an effective presentation of your project for your portfolio and website
Discuss potential opportunities to exhibit and/or publish your work
Prerequisites:
Students should be working on personal projects (documentary or fine arts). All levels of photographic knowledge or experience are welcome.
Course Prep:
For the first class, students should prepare a sequenced selection of up to 20 images from their project and a text describing their project (up to 1 page). Submission instructions will be emailed by the instructor.
