The task (some would say art) of selecting your best pictures and organizing them in an effective and compelling order may feel complex or intimidating yet is extremely rewarding when completed correctly and effectively. In this workshop, students explore and practice methodologies for organizing their archives systematically, identifying their better work, and selecting the correct pictures effectively. By the end of the weekend, each student will transform a large group of pictures into a powerful presentation of up to 20 images. Topics include organizing your work environment, fast vs detailed editing processes, leading software tools, sequencing principles, and processes, preparing images for release, and archiving. Students are expected to bring existing imagery to organize and edit during class and participate in class discussions.
Objectives:
Understand how to effectively structure your image archive
Discuss software options and review Adobe Lightroom functionality
Learn how to identify and mark your best pictures
Receive guidance while you reorganize your work and make your selections
Apply a systematic process to sequence your selected images effectively
End up with a well-sequenced selection of up to 20 pictures
Prerequisites:
Students should have a large group/selection of images they would like to edit and sequence.
Course Prep:
For the first day, students should bring 200-2000 pictures related to a theme or a body of work and their respective catalog (if relevant) on an external hard drive. If they choose to do so, students will be allowed to work at HCP Digital Lab until 7 pm.
