You’ve developed your skills, put in the time and effort, and photographed powerful pictures. What now? How do you get your imagery the attention it deserves or start developing your career as a photographer? In this intensive course, students learn the various options and aspects of working in the editorial and art scenes. Topics include photography’s main markets, building your identity and portfolio, digital vs physical presentations, online presence, festivals and portfolio reviews, competitions, photography websites and blogs, printed publications, exhibition considerations, and venues. During the course, students will create or improve their portfolio (digital and/or printed) and will practice presenting it in a portfolio review.

Objectives:

  • Understand the fine art, editorial, and commercial markets and how to work in each one

  • Structure or improve your portfolio by applying guidelines and constructive feedback 

  • Consider your personal branding and upgrade your online presence

  • Discuss how to create new opportunities by making important contacts 

  • Learn how to make the most of portfolio reviews using valuable tips and recommendations

  • Expand the list of competitions you apply for and learn how to spot the good ones

  • Understand how and when to approach online publications, magazines, and exhibition venues in order to get your work exhibited and/or published

  • Receive a valuable list of main photography festivals, portfolio reviews, competitions, online publications, and magazines

Prerequisites: 

Having a portfolio or being in the process of structuring one
