Louie Palu

Louie Palu is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker whose work has examined critical issues for over 30-years. He has been selected for a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship and World Press Photo Award. Palu’s work has covered the wars in Afghanistan, Ukraine, and the future of the Arctic for National Geographic. His images have been published in National Geographic, Bloomberg Opinion, Le Figaro, Le Monde, The Guardian, El Pais, La Republica, BBC, Die Zeit, The New Yorker, The New York Times, Foreign Policy, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and The Economist.

Palu’s work has been exhibited extensively and screened at festivals worldwide and is in the collections of numerous museums, libraries, and archives including the National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian National Museum of American History, Museum of Fine Arts Houston and Ogden Museum of Southern Art. 

Palu has worked as a teacher for his entire career spanning over 35-years and has put an in-depth focus on understanding the teaching and learning process. He holds an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and is based in Washington DC.

Louie Palu has mentored numerous photographers addressing conceptual and structural goals in their practice including editing and sequencing, advanced image making, professional practices and revenue streams. He specializes in long-term projects being realized for exhibitions or books and advancing creative approaches to engaging audiences with the artist's work.
