Elinor Carucci was born in Jerusalem in 1971 to a Jewish family of North African, Bukharian, and Italian descent. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem in 1995 and moved to New York the same year.

Carucci’s work has been included in many solo and group exhibitions worldwide. Her solo exhibitions include Edwynn Houk gallery, New York, Fifty One Fine Art Gallery, Antwerp, FoMU, and Gagosian Gallery, London among others. Group exhibitions include The Museum of Modern Art New York, MoCP Chicago, and The Photographers' Gallery, London. Her photographs are included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston among others. 

Carucci’s editorial work appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, W, Aperture, and many more publications. She was awarded the ICP Infinity Award in 2001, The Guggenheim Fellowship in 2002, and NYFA in 2010. Carruci has published five monographs to date - Closer, (Chronicle Books, 2002), Diary of a dancer (SteidlMack, 2005), MOTHER (Prestel, 2013), Midlife (Monacelli Press/Phaidon, 2019), and recently, The Collars of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Clarkson Potter/Random House, 2023).

Carucci teaches for the Photography, Video and Related Media graduate program at the School of Visual Arts, New York and is represented by Edwynn Houk Gallery, New York.

Whether preparing for an exhibition, a book, or an editorial assignment, Carucci helps mentees define their unique artistic voice and navigate the journey from a private idea to a public platform.
