Understanding Color and Light (Jan 13)

Color is a vital element in photography. In this workshop, participants explore the power of color to express their unique perspectives, emphasize subject matter, and convey moods. Topics include the relationship between quality of light and color values, saturation, contrast, and the emotional impact of color properties. We will partake in a photographic exercise to explore the relationship between lighting and color temperatures. Subjects also include an introduction to color theory, the RGB color wheel, and the Kelvin scale.
Objectives:
Discover the relationship between the quality of light and color values
Explore color properties to inspire creative image-making
Practice photographing in different lighting situations
Refine your visual literacy and critical thinking
Get introduced to color theory or deepen your knowledge
Prerequisites:
The ability to share your computer screen via Zoom. All photography skills are welcome. All camera formats are welcome, including smartphones.
Course Prep:
Please have your camera ready to photograph during the online session. We will be running our classroom using Zoom software (free). Please download it in advance: https://zoom.us/. To view images, we will use the screen-sharing option in Zoom.
